Come Follow Me Sketchnotes: “Be Not Afraid”// Matthew 14-15; Mark 6-7; John 5-6

I’m excited about this week’s sketchnotes page! Peter walking on water is one of my very favorite stories in the whole New Testament.  I so identify with Peter! My righteous enthusiasm has gotten me into deep water more than once.  And my doubt creeps in often.  I just love the thought of Christ waiting nearby to save me when I’m in over my head.

Because I love this story so much, I wanted to create some extra-special doodles for this week. The image of Christ’s hand reaching out to grasp Peter’s is so powerful to me and I spent a lot of extra time trying to get it just right. Hands are hard to draw!  If you’re feeling generous, take a minute to thank my cute husband who served as the hand model as I was finishing up this drawing.  Poor guy!

The stories of Jesus feeding multitudes and healing a deaf man are also included in this lesson.  There are some really incredible extra resources below, make sure you check them out!  My very favorite thing for my kiddos lately is the Scripture Stories podcast.  My 5 year old who rarely stops moving sat still and listened to a full episode this morning.  He loved it!

Ideas for using weekly Come Follow Me Sketchnotes pages:

COLORING PAGE. Use as a coloring page for your kids to work on during family scripture time.  Write additional notes and insights on the pages as you go. You could add all the completed sketchnotes pages to a binder to keep as a reminder of the gospel topics you’ve discussed together.

STICKER PAPER. Print on clear sticker paper and cut apart the doodles to add to your scripture journal or into the margins of your scriptures.  (This year, I am using this free wide-margin New Testament PDF that I had printed and spiral bound at a local copy shop.  But there are many wide-margin options available.)

Printing on clear sticker paper allows you to add color to the doodles using colored pencils, but still be able to see the words beneath them.  I have tried out a few different kinds of colored pencils on this sticker paper.  Ergosoft pencils and Prismacolor pencils work really well.

TRACE. You can also trace these into your scriptures or journal using a light box or a sunny window.  My husband made me an awesome lightbox, but this one is a great option for you to purchase.
