Come Follow Me Book of Mormon Sketchnotes: February 2020

How is your study of the Book of Mormon coming this year? I am so delighted to delve deeply into this book that I love so much. If you’d like to read about how I’m studying Come Follow Me, keep watching for a post later this week. I’m sharing all of my favorite tried and true resources!

I am loving these monthly sketchnotes posts (as opposed to weekly, like I did last year). I hope it’s working okay for you to have all the downloads for Come Follow Me in one place for the month. Doing it this way allows me to create so much more content for you in other areas: journaling videos and paper dolls and this new Character Study kit and so much more on the way!

TRACE. You can also trace these into your scriptures or journal using a light box or a sunny window.  My husband made me an awesome lightbox, but this one is a great option for you to purchase.

COLORING PAGE. Use as a coloring page for your kids to work on during family scripture time.  Write additional notes and insights on the pages as you go. You could add all the completed sketchnotes pages to a binder to keep as a reminder of the gospel topics you’ve discussed together.

STICKER PAPER. Print on clear sticker paper and cut apart the doodles to add to your scripture journal or into the margins of your scriptures.  (This year I am usinga wide-margin study edition of the Book of Mormon from Line Upon Line.  Our family is using their Journaling Edition for our study together as well. But there are so many wide-margin options available! Deseret Book has several great options and you can print this free PDF and have it bound at a local copy shop.)

Printing on clear sticker paper allows you to add color to the doodles using colored pencils, but still be able to see the words beneath them.  I have tried out a few different kinds of colored pencils on this sticker paper.  Ergosoft pencils and Prismacolor pencils work really well.

2 Nephi 6-10; “o How Great the Plan of Our God!”

Hello friends! I’m delighted to have another week of free sketchnotes for you today!

As we continue on this beautiful Come Follow Me journey, I am learning more and more about what works for our family. I told you a few weeks ago that we were going to try watching the videos from each week on Sunday mornings before church. Because we have church at 9:00, that has just not been happening consistently.

This week we’re going to try an idea sent in by an awesome reader (but I can’t recall who it was. If it was you, thank you!) We’re going to try watching the videos for the week ahead on Sunday evening. That seems MUCH more do-able and enjoyable to me! We will most likely not watch the conference talks listed each week, just the Book of Mormon videos and the other shorter videos provided.

So today we’ll sit down together and watch these videos

Read CFM introduction and 2 Nephi 9:7 + Cupboard Counter

Tuesday: Read 2 Nephi 8:3-7

Wednesday: Read 2 Nephi 8:24-25

Thursday: Read 2 Nephi 9:27-44. Discus “wo” and “remember”

Friday: Read 2 Nephi 9: 28-29; 50-51

Saturday: Read 2 Nephi 9:45

Sunday: Watch all of the Book of Mormon videos for NEXT week

We Rejoice in Christ; 2 Nephi 11-25

Over the past couple of weeks I have received a few requests for more doodles and drawings in the sketchnotes, and I’ve heard you! I’m happy to oblige. The sketchnotes for this week have a BUNCH of drawings and I hope they are useful to you!

If you use my sketchnotes frequently, I’d love your support. I do enjoy being able to provide these for free to those in need. But running a website and design software costs money. And it takes me multiple hours to create the sketchnotes each week. If you are able, I’d love it if you could support A Lively Hope by buying the monthly sketchnotes bundles. You can find them here.

NOTE: Yes, the only bundle currently available is for 1 Nephi and you probably have those sketchnotes already. Purchasing the bundles in advance is not an option at this point. This is a way to help support A Lively Hope, so if you feel like the sketchnotes you’ve already used are worth a small payment, I’d be so very grateful!

Okay! On to this week’s schedule and sketchnotes!

Read CFM introduction and 2 Nephi 25:26 + Testimony Time Capsule

  1. Rebecca Pierpont

Thank you for these sketch notes. They help my 11 year old key into what we are talking about and it keeps her and her sister busy while we do home study. Thanks for all the hard work.

  2. I LOVE your sketchnotes, but I’m sad that there aren’t more images (as opposed to just words) in the last few weeks. I have been using them to help my dyslexic daughter, who has a hard time reading, still feel like her scriptures are her own and that the book is meant for her too. She is very artistically minded, and it has been WONDERFUL to read through the chapters with her and have her pick out which images correspond and color them in.

    1. I added a bunch more doodles/drawings this week! I hope that’s helpful for you. I’ve actually had several people ask for more doodles, so I will try to concentrate on that in the future. The Book of Mormon has such beautiful words that I tend to get caught up in them and I didn’t even notice I had changed to doing more text over time. Thank you for your note and I’m so happy these have worked for you and your daughter!

  4. It was me who commented! I said it helps our kids understand better what is happening during the week when we’re reading, but honestly, it helps me a lot too in picturing real people and events, lol

  5. Thank you for providing these sketchnotes and the schedule you follow with your family. It has really enriched my scripture study this time around! I look forward to printing the page out every week and coloring the words and pictures while I study.

  6. Hi, I am looking at your schedule for the week. How do you decide what to read and not read? I noticed in the schedule you don’t read chapter 6, 7 or 10. Thanks!!

  7. I also like it with more doodles! I trace them in and color them in during Sacrament meeting while I am listening. Thank you so much!

  8. Thank you so much for doing these. I have really enjoyed coloring these to cut out and glue into my wide-margin scriptures while I listen to Come Follow Me podcasts or scriptures. I struggled a little with my personal scripture study last year, but this year I have found that I am excited to get out the coloring supplies and I want to take that time every day to learn. I can focus more on what I am listening to if I have something to color, so I have gotten so much more out of my scripture study this year thanks to you. I too also love that you put more doodles in the latest page. I am not artistic nor can I draw, so I love that you are willing to share your talents to beautify my scriptures! 🙂 Thank you again.

  9. Your insights into the Book of Mormon chapters are so helpful. Pictures plus words are very powerful and tend to stay in my mind. I’m a visual learner and your picture/word summaries are invaluable to me. Thank you for sharing your insights and talents.

  10. Oh-my-goodness, THANK YOU!
Sketchnoting has literally CHANGED my scripture study, and your resources are amazing! I am so thrilled! I can’t wait to be in my scriptures and scripture journal all the time now.
This week in YW, we’ll be working with the 11-12-13-year-olds on scripture study helps, and I will be directing them to your site for inspiration. You really rock!

  11. I just found you on Pinterest and I’m so excited to use these tonight for CFM FHE!! Thank you for sharing your talent, I know my kids will love these sketch notes! 🙂
