Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants Devotional Schedule

Doctrine and Covenants Devotional Schedule. Songs to sing, and verses to memorize for each week of Come Follow Me 2021

You may remember the devotional schedule I put together last year for our study of the Book of Mormon. The free schedule for our 2021 study of the Doctrine and Covenants is now available! *NOTE: This file has been updated as of January 2, 2021. One week was accidentally left off the schedule, but it’s included now! Please re-download if needed.

Great news! This year I’ve made it even easier for you to memorize a scripture each week with your family! I’ve created an easy-to-read printable scripture pack that goes along with Come Follow Me Doctrine and Covenants!

First, a little refresher on how we memorize scriptures at our house:

How to Memorize Scriptures with kids

Each week I choose a scripture, or a phrase from scripture based on the Come Follow Me lesson for that week and write it on the large chalkboard in our kitchen. I created a list for the year that includes one scripture verse and one song for every lesson. (Yes, I have the list all ready for you to download! Check it out below)

As part of our daily devotional (almost) every weekday morning, the kids and I sing the song for the week and recite the scripture (the same song and scripture all week long). They can also choose to recite the scripture at each meal. If they choose to recite they receive a tiny candy: one skittle, one chocolate chip, etc. I want their memories of reciting scripture verses to be sweet.

There is no forcing here; they can choose to recite or not. If they choose to recite, or even just to try, they get the little treat. If they choose not to, they don’t get the treat. They usually choose to try. I help them as needed and usually after just a day or two they have the verse memorized.

One key to success: choose shorter phrases to memorize. This is about planting the uplifting and inspiring Word in their hearts, not about them being able to memorize long passages. I love hunting for meaningful phrases in the scriptures and sharing them with my family.

This document is nothing special. It’s not pretty, but it is super functional and self-explanatory. I hope it’s useful for you as we study the Doctrine and Covenants together this year.

We do this as part of our homeschool day, but it could very easily fit into any family’s schedule! It really takes just a few minutes per day.

You can learn more about this in my Instagram Stories.

For the past few years, I’ve written the scripture verse of the week up on an chalkboard in our kitchen. But this year I decided to make it even more simple for myself (and for you!). I created an easy-to-read PDF with one verse per page for each Come Follow Me lesson. I picked beautiful and uplifting phrases, most of which are short and easy to memorize.

The goal here is to help the beautiful verses stick in our minds, not to memorize huge passages of scripture.

I’m all about making things as simple as possible. Now I no longer need to write the verse up on the chalkboard each week! I just printed out all the papers and put them up on a clipboard (hung on the wall with command strips). Now we’ll switch out the verse each week and call it good! I don’t have to keep track of chalk or an eraser or anything!

If this sounds like a perfect solution for you, grab your copy of the Doctrine and Covenants scripture pack here.
