I am excited to share with you today a resource that I created to go along with the Come Follow Me for Individuals and Families Book of Mormon study guide.  It’s a journal to use as a family as you work your way through the curriculum.

There is a page for each week in the  Book of Mormon Come Follow Me Curriculum for Individuals and Families.  Each page lists the Book of Mormon reading assignment and the title of the lesson. And if you have a restless little person, they can color in the title of the lesson while you read aloud.

Each week features four boxes: Truths, Questions, Impressions and Goals.  As your family studies the Come Follow Me lessons, and reads through the Book of Mormon,  take a moment or two to write or draw in each of the featured boxes for the week and throughout the year you’ll have a record of the things you learned and studied and the goals you set.

I created a Come Follow Me journal like this last year, and people loved it so much that it kinda broke the internet (or at least my website).  Hopefully we can avoid that this year!

Ideas for Implementing the Come Follow Me Journal:

This Come Follow Me journal can be used in multiple ways, really in any way that works for you and your family.  Here are some ideas for how to use each of the sections.

TRUTHS:

  • As you’re studying the Book of Mormon, pause after each verse/section to ask what truths were shared.
  • Take a moment to discuss truths you read at the end of each study session
QUESTIONS:
  • Questions will naturally arise as you earnestly study the Come Follow Me lessons, whether from your kids or yourself.  Write down the questions as they come up, so you can remember to study them in depth (if needed) and answer them later.
  • Use the questions that arise as a basis for further gospel discussions, Family Home Evening lessons, etc.

IMPRESSIONS:

  • This is a place to record the thoughts and promptings you receive as you study Come Follow Me.
  • Impressions could be directly related to the studying you’re doing, or have to do with something else entirely.
  • Write down any promptings you receive (a neighbor who needs a visit, a friend to call, a way to help your struggling child, a verse you want to study in depth) so you can be sure to come back to them later.
  • Follow through on promptings!  It’s easy to brush them aside, but as Camilla Kimball said,”Never suppress a generous thought.”
GOALS:
  • This box is intentionally small to allow us to focus on only one or two goals each week.  At the beginning of the week it’s easy to be highly motivated and think “This is the week I will do all the things and help all the people!”. But then real life and additional responsibilities kick in, that enthusiasm is lost and we give up entirely.
  • Small, simple, measurable goals are the most effective way to make lasting change.
  • Pick one or two goals for the week: people to serve, a house project, a fun family outing, whatever your family feels impressed to work on.
  • Cross off the goal when you have completed it!

This Book of Mormon journal is intentionally simple; it is designed to allow you to direct the learning in your home.  You can tailor the discussions toward the ages of your children and their level of understanding.  I hope that it is of benefit to you!
