Come Follow Me Copywork

Hello! I’m happy to be back today with the next installment in my Come Follow Me copywork series.  We use copywork in our homeschool to help the kids practice their handwriting and to fill their minds with beautiful and uplifting words.  Grab your free copywork printable below!

I’m a little embarrassed to admit this, but I just discovered I didn’t post this weeks ago like I thought I did...

Today I’m sharing the copywork I made to go along with the February 2019 Come Follow Me curriculum.  All of the verses were taken directly from the lessons.  This free copywork packet includes 15 scripture verses in different styles, 45 pages in total.

Younger children can trace the words in a larger font, helping them to practice letter formation.  Older children have the option of a guided wordstrip to help them form letters correctly or a plain line for those who are more comfortable writing.

One of the main reasons I love copywork for my kids is how well it helps them to sit still and focus for just a minute.  I have two very active boys (and I mean VERY active) and something about copywork helps them calm down, even just for a short time.

So if my just-barely five year old is running around the house, pestering siblings and destroying our possessions and just generally disturbing the peace while I’m trying to finish up our school day with the big kids, I’ll often pull out a copywork page for him to work on.

(By the way, please tell me I’m not the only one who has an extremely energetic, lovely and smart, adorable five year old who seems to be bent on destroying the house and everything in it.)

He can’t read yet, but he does know the letters. It doesn’t seem to bother him at all that he doesn’t actually know what he’s writing. He enjoys tracing each letter while he sits next to us at the giant kitchen table.  I think it helps him to feel grown up and included to be writing while the bigger kids do their schoolwork.

After he’s done tracing the words, I read them to him and we talk about what the verse means, just for a minute.  It’s nothing formal at his age.  Just a quick explanation, a tiny testimony of the truthfulness of the words he’s written, and then he’s on his way.

The more we incorporate copywork in to our daily homeschool schedule, the more benefits I see.
I’d love to know how you’re using these copywork pages! Share a photo and tag me on Instagram!
