Free Print: I Will Be Your Light in the Wilderness
“And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led.” 1 Nephi 17:13
I love this beautiful promise given to Lehi and his family as they journeyed through the wilderness. I can’t imagine how difficult their time in the wilderness must have been. They left behind luxuries and security to follow God. They stepped into a strange and unknown future, trusting that He would lead them. And He did, but often they only knew just the next step they needed to take. They didn’t know the whole plan or have any inkling of what lay ahead when they first packed their bags, loaded their tents and supplies and walked off into the night. Their journey was dusty and dirty, fraught with hardships and difficulties. Yet they struggled on, because of their faith.
They couldn’t light fires for fear of being caught in their flight, so the Lord promised to light their path: “I will be your light in the wilderness.” He knew exactly what they needed, and He gave it to them, wholeheartedly. Lehi and his family spent years trekking into the unknown, and eventually, after countless trials, God led them to the Promised Land.
We are all walking through a wilderness of one kind or another. And, most likely, we’ll face more than one barren place in our lifetimes. Maybe your wilderness is job loss or financial struggles, maybe it’s betrayal by a loved one, or infertility, or abuse. You could be in any number of heartbreaking situations, and maybe even more than one at once.
No matter where you are along your dusty journey here, please know that He can guide you. He knows just what you need and wants to bless you with it. Follow Him, one step at a time, and you’ll end up just where He has planned for you to be.
Your personal promised land.
