What I’ve Been Reading: April 2019
Hello friends!
April was a pretty great reading month for me in the beginning, but I’ve found myself falling into a bit of a rut over the past week or so. I need a great fiction book that I can’t put down. I’d love to hear your recommendations!
I’m sharing a quick review of all of the books I read in April. Usually I don’t finish a book unless it’s really grabbed my attention or is inspiring me. There are just too many great books out there! So all of the books you see here I would give at least 3/5 stars.
My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows
Loved this retelling of the Jane Eyre story. It’s lighthearted and fun and imagines what the story would be like if Jane was a real person, and was friends with Charlotte Bronte. It’s hilarious and even more delightful if you’re a Jane Eyre fan.
The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
Read this aloud to my kids. It just gets better every time. Inspired some great conversations and my 5 year old especially was very into it.
Sweep: the Story of a Girl and Her Monster by Jonathan Auxier
Loved this story so much. It’s about friendship and sacrifice and taking a stand on important issues. It left me wanting to learn more about child labor in that time period. It would make a great aloud.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
This was a re-read, I’ve been slowly working my way through the audiobooks over the past year or so. Finished up the final book this month, and it’s just so, so good. Listened to the fantastic Jim Dale audio version. Love.
A Shepherd looks at Psalm 23 by Phillip Keller
I loved this well-written explanation. Learning more about how a successful Shepherd cares for his sheep made David’s beautiful words even more meaningful.
Women in Science by Rachel Ignotofsky
This was a read aloud for our homeschool. A fascinating and quick look into 50 women who changed science and changed history. Awesome illustrations!
Becoming Mrs. Lewis: the Improbable Love Story of Joy Davidman and C.S. Lewis
I LOVED this book. It’s a sweet love story, and a fascinating look at the creative process. Joy Davidman over came some great difficulties and is an inspiring woman and a great example of conversion to Christ. I am excited to read more C.S. Lewis, and to learn more about Joy Davidman and more about the Inklings because I am just fascinated by the idea of them meeting together to discuss projects and bounce ideas off each other.
