I have heard from many people how much they love the Inspector Gamache series.  This is the second book in the series; I read the first many months ago.  The story started out slowly for me as I tried to remember if I had already been introduced to certain characters and tried to decipher whether I needed to remember details from the previous book in order to follow the story line.  I loved being reunited with some of the characters from the first book and being immersed in the quaint little town of Three Pines again. I am very sensitive too scary and gory books but this series is done so tastefully (at least, the two books I’ve read have been) that while it is a murder mystery, it is not over the top scary.  I could read it before bed without worrying about nightmares. That’s something I appreciate.

I don’t read much poetry, but I loved this collection from Mary Oliver.  I found myself stopping to contemplate each poem as I read it, which is probably her intention.  I felt a connection to the poet because many of these poems were about beautifully normal things she’d witnessed on early-morning walks.  I love long morning walks and found her a kindred spirit in that area as well as her focus on nature.

This book has been on my to-read list for quite a while.  I am so glad I finally got around to it. Wilcox lays out the gospel in such an approachable, understandable way.  He consistently phrased things in just the right way to help me see the doctrine just a little bit differently and grasp it more fully. This is such an inspiring read for those of us who are extremely hard on ourselves and see every little misstep as a failure.  (Are you like that, too?)
