Book of Mormon Journal: How to Create a Tape Transfer

Simple and easy way to add art to your scriptures! This tape transfer technique is a great way to add gorgeous artwork to your scriptures even if you feel like you aren’t artistic.

If you’re looking for a great way to add beauty to your scriptures, I have an awesome (and simple) technique to share with you today!

Creating tape transfers is one of my favorite ways to add simple beauty to my art journals. And when I teach workshops, it is always the most popular technique for people to try out. It’s great for beginning art journal keepers as well as those who are more experienced.

Watch the video below for the step-by-step guide to creating this page. But before you go, here are some helpful tips.

Tape Transfer Tips

  • Make sure you overlap the tape if you need more than one piece to cover the image you want to transfer (otherwise it will split when you remove the paper backing)
  • Rub with your fingertips, not fingernails (using your nails could scratch the color off the tape)
  • Darker images create darker transfers. If you want to see all the words underneath the transfer, use a lighter image.

Because someone always asks, I want to make it clear that this is my art journal version of the Book of Mormon. I also have another copy that I read/study in, so it doesn’t bother me if some words are covered.

I love the process of connecting with God and His Word while I create art. It’s a form of meditation for me. If you don’t agree with painting in your scriptures, I understand. But please don’t send me hateful messages about it. 😉
